When
I think of the Buffalo Bills I think back to the early 1990's. Under
head coach Marv Levy the Bills went to 4 straight Super Bowls from
1990-1994 but failed to win any of them. Looking back it is amazing
that Buffalo did not win atleast 1 of those Super Bowls with all of
the talent that they had. Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, and Bruce Smith
where some of the key players from those teams.
The 2007 version of the Buffalo Bills does not have Super Bowl talent
but they could make a run at the playoffs if the cards fell just right.
With former 1st round draft picks J.P. Losman and Marshawn Lynch the
Bills have drafted to setup there offense for the future. Losman however
has still yet to prove himself in the NFL since being drafted 22nd
overall in the 2004 NFL draft. In order for the Buffalo Bills to build
on there 7-9 2006 season both of these players will have to have big
years along with Lee Evans, Peerless Price, and Donte Whitner.

Bills - Team History
Buffalo Bills, professional football team and one of five teams in
the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) of
the National Football League (NFL). The Bills play at Ralph Wilson
Stadium in Buffalo, New York, and wear uniforms of royal blue, scarlet,
and white. The team was named by the organization’s first president,
Ralph C. Wilson, Jr., after American scout, guide, and showman William
Frederick Cody, who was known as Buffalo Bill for his ability to kill
buffalo.
The Bills built powerful
teams in both the now-defunct American Football League (AFL) and
the NFL. The team won consecutive AFL titles in 1964 and 1965 with
teams that starred running back Cookie Gilchrist and quarterback
Jack Kemp. During the 1970s Bills running back O. J. Simpson became
one of the most prolific rushers in professional football history,
breaking nearly every NFL rushing record. Buffalo appeared in four
consecutive Super Bowls from 1991 through 1994 with teams starring
linebacker Cornelius Bennett, quarterback Jim Kelly, defensive end
Bruce Smith, and running back Thurman Thomas.
Buffalo became a charter
member of the AFL in 1960. After four mediocre seasons, the team
won the Eastern Division in 1964 under head coach Lou Saban, who
was named AFL coach of the year. Also that year, the Bills’
star kicker, Hungarian-born Pete Gogolak, became professional football’s
first soccer-style kicker, using the side of his foot rather than
his toe to propel the football. The Bills beat the San Diego Chargers
in the 1964 AFL Championship Game. A year later they repeated the
feat. Saban again won top coaching honors, and Jack Kemp was named
the league’s most valuable player (MVP).
After posting the AFL’s
worst record in 1968, the Bills used their number-one pick in the
1969 AFL draft to select O. J. Simpson. A year later, Buffalo joined
the NFL when the AFL and NFL completed their merger. In 1972 Simpson
won the first of his four AFC rushing titles, and the next season
he ran for 2,003 yards, breaking the NFL record held by Jim Brown
of the Cleveland Browns. Eric Dickerson of the Los Angeles Rams
(now St. Louis Rams) broke Simpson’s record in 1984 with 2,105
yards. The Bills had little postseason success during Simpson’s
time with the club, and he left the team in 1977.
Led by veteran quarterback
Joe Ferguson and rookie running back Joe Cribbs, Buffalo made the
playoffs in 1980, and Chuck Knox was named AFC coach of the year.
The Bills continued to improve during the 1980s, reaching the playoffs
again in 1981 and acquiring key players such as quarterback Jim
Kelly, running back Thurman Thomas, and wide receiver Andre Reed.
In 1988 the Bills reached
the AFC Championship Game for the first time since joining the NFL.
Buffalo’s Eastern Division title was the first of five that
the team captured from 1988 to 1993. The team combined a potent
offense with defensive standouts such as Cornelius Bennett and Bruce
Smith. In 1991 the Bills lost the first of four consecutive Super
Bowls. The margins of defeat ranged from a 1-point loss to the New
York Giants in 1991 to a 35-point rout at the hands of the Dallas
Cowboys in 1993. Although Bennett left the team after the 1995 season
and Kelly retired in 1996, Buffalo continued to be a dominant force
in the AFC Eastern Division in the mid- and late 1990s. Before the
2000 season Buffalo retooled its roster and released popular stars
Andre Reed, Bruce Smith, and Thurman Thomas.

Trent Edwards is the starting quarterback to open training camp, but that hardly means the competition is over between him, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

After evaluating all the OTA and minicamp things, we just felt like Trent deserved to start the training camp with the first group," said coach Chan Gailey, who emphasized the completion is not over. "We'll have the other guys, Fitz and Brian alternating with the twos during the course of the first few weeks here. And then we'll get Levi Brown as many reps as we can get him. But that was how we evaluated it coming out of the OTAs.

Gailey said he was impressed with the way Edwards worked throughout the offseason, not just with the first team but also when working further down the depth chart as the Bills rotated the...
PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Quarterback Trent Edwards has a renewed perspective on what it takes to be an NFL starter after being given the opportunity to reclaim his job with the Buffalo Bills.
PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Buffalo Bills veteran linebacker Chris Kelsay will be out indefinitely after injuring his right shoulder on the first day of training camp.
Buffalo Bills veteran linebacker Chris Kelsay will be out indefinitely after injuring his right shoulder on the first day of training camp. Without providing any details of the injury, coach Chan Gailey says Kelsay "will be out a little while," but didn't know for how long. Kelsay was hurt midway through practice Thursday afternoon, when he left the field and had his shoulder...

The Buffalo Bills are opening training camp with Aaron Schobel on the Reserve/Did Not Report list while the veteran defensive end contemplates retirement. The move was announced Thursday, shortly before the team's first practice in suburban Rochester. Schobel did not report for the start of camp and has missed all of the team's offseason practices.
PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Rookie defensive tackle Torell Troup agreed to a contract with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, a day before the team was set to open training camp.
PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Aaron Schobel is considering playing one more year after the Buffalo Bills' leading pass rusher spent the off-season contemplating retirement.
Rookie defensive tackle Torell Troup agreed to a contract with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, a day before the team was set to open training camp. Bills general manager Buddy Nix expected the nose tackle to arrive at camp in suburban Rochester in time for the team's first practice Thursday afternoon.
Aaron Schobel is considering playing one more year after the Buffalo Bills' leading pass rusher spent the offseason contemplating retirement. That doesn't mean he has made up his mind. Speaking by phone from his home in Texas on Wednesday, Schobel confirmed to The Associated Press that he intends to make a decision by the middle of August when it's time for his children to start school.
Coach Chan Gailey has a simple message for his Buffalo Bills: Break time is over. To drive home his point, Gailey had the dozen or so big-screen TVs removed from the walls of the weight room. He considered them a distraction in what should be a place of work -- not a cozy suburban health club spa. "We want to make sure that we understand that when we walk into this facility it's all...
NFL preseason capsules as training camps open: AFC EAST BUFFALO BILLS (6-10) OPEN CAMP: July 29 LAST YEAR: Popgun offense that Terrell Owens couldn't spark, instability at quarterback and inability to stop the run conspired to prompt yet another coaching change (Dick Jauron fired after 3-6 start) as bumbling Bills celebrated their 50th year by capping a decade of ineptitude and missing...
The Buffalo Bills have placed tight end Joe Klopfenstein on injured reserve a week before the start of training camp. In announcing the move on Thursday, the Bills provided no details on Klopfenstein's injury. Re-signed by the team in March, Klopfenstein appeared in only the Bills' season finale last season, when he had one catch for 11 yards.
Bills rookie defensive end Alex Carrington can begin focusing on the start of training camp now that his contract is out of the way. The third-round draft pick out of Arkansas State signed a four-year deal with Buffalo on Monday, a little over a week before the team will open camp in suburban Rochester on July 29.
