Tigers Information
The Tigers of Detroit
tried to play hard but lost 11- 0 to the Blue Jays of Toronto
on Thursday in Detroit at Comerica Park.
Since last year they
have included some great players like Ivan Rodriguez, Rondell
White, Fernando Vina, Carlos Guillan, Jason Johnson, Al Levine
and Urbina.
The Tigers have spent
a lot off season to merge among the top teams of the Central.
But still they do not come up as well with Yankees, Red Sox and
Angels.
News is that Jackie
Robinson day was celebrated on April 15th. It was pragmatic as
26 teams participated in 13 major league ballparks. Jackie's widow
also attended the ceremony at Shea Stadium and was grateful to
the fans who were present there and the Major League Baseball.
Some bad news for
Tiger fans is that some of their players are injured and would
be out of action for some period.
D. Young has his right
leg broken and would stay off for around 8 weeks.
C. Spurling would
be out of the whole season for his right elbow surgery.
F. Rodney and L. Urdaneta
would be off for 15days as for having a right elbow sprain and
right elbow inflammation.
Detroit Tigers have
have won 6 matches and lost 3.
History has it in
its store that Tigers were ready to play their first American
League game On April 24th, 1901 but rain did disrupt the match
to be played at Bennett Park.
In 1905 the Tigers
took on the blue uniform for Tyrus Raymond Cobb who was with Tigers
for 22 years and has more records in his name then any other major
league player. So Detroit Tigers are here for long and entertain
us with some big games ahead.

The injury bug might be biting the Tigers' pitching staff just in time to ease some pain.

Recent news that both Bobby Seay and Zach Miner might begin the season on the disabled list opens the door for the Tigers to squeeze a couple of pitchers onto their season-starting roster they might otherwise have had to shut out.

Seay has just resumed pitching after fighting bursitis/tendinitis in his left shoulder since the start of spring training, and Miner, who had been scored on in every outing, was diagnosed with right elbow tenderness.

Both, according to manager Jim Leyland, might have to start the season on the disabled list.

Leaving Seay behind in Florida to pitch camp games and sending Daniel Schlereth to the minors would still let Leyland begin the season...
Roy Halladay struggled for the first time this spring in the Philadelphia Phillies' 3-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Halladay allowed three runs and six hits, all for extra bases, in five innings. The left-hander walked two batters, hit another with a pitch and had no strikeouts. Halladay gave up all three runs in the second.
Roy Halladay struggled for the first time this spring and the Detroit Tigers were able to take advantage. Halladay (1-1) allowed three runs and six hits, all for extra bases, in five innings of the Philadelphia Phillies' 3-0 loss to the Tigers on Saturday. The left-hander walked two batters, hit another with a pitch and had no strikeouts.
Tigers reliever Bobby Seay will not be on the active roster when Detroit opens the regular season at Kansas City on April 5. Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said Seay has had a setback and can't throw, but didn't provide details. The 31-year-old left-hander has been hampered by a left biceps injury and has not pitched in a spring training game.
Johnny Damon seems determined to show that his home run splurge last season wasn't just a product of the new Yankee Stadium's extra cozy right-field porch. "I don't know of a ballpark in America that would have held the one he hit tonight," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said after Damon unloaded a mammoth homer during the fifth inning of a 4-4 tie against the Atlanta Braves on...
Alex Rodriguez hit a long solo homer, CC Sabathia allowed two runs in 5 1-3 innings and the New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 6-2 in a split-squad game on Friday. Rodriguez hit his first homer, a towering drive over the scoreboard in left in the third off Rick Porcello, who was charged with four runs -- one earned -- and four hits over three innings.
Dontrelle Willis had a lot more to worry about in this outing than his pitching line. And the line was pretty good. Willis pitched through back spasms, was hit in the knee with a line drive and injured his thumb catching another, but worked three scoreless innings in the Detroit Tigers' 5-4 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday.
Kevin Hart might be walking his way out of the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting rotation. Hart walked six of the 12 batters he faced, failing to make it out of the second inning in the Pirates' 6-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Hart came into spring training as the favorite to win the No.
Ryan Howard hit his first home run of the spring and highly touted Domonic Brown connected twice, leading Cole Hamels and the Philadelphia Phillies over the Detroit Tigers 6-1 Tuesday. Hamels held the Tigers to an unearned run and two hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked none. Howard launched a two-run drive off Justin Verlander.
Armando Galarraga is not overly concerned with his slow start this spring. Galarraga allowed three runs, all earned in three innings while the Tigers topped the Toronto Blue Jays 10-7 on Monday. His spring training ERA jumped to 11.57. "They got some hits, but they were mostly ground balls that found holes," Galarraga said.
As good as Rick Porcello was last year for the Detroit Tigers, he thinks he's a better pitcher in 2010. So far, the results back that up. On Sunday, the 21-year-old right-hander, who won 14 games in 2009 as a rookie, threw four scoreless innings in a 9-6 win over Tampa Bay. Porcello has yet to allow a run in nine exhibition innings over three appearances.
Johnny Damon played against the New York Yankees for the first time since leaving after four seasons to sign as a free agent with the Detroit Tigers. Damon had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs in Saturday's 6-2 split-squad win. The veteran outfielder is thrilled with his new surroundings.
Oliver Perez threw four no-hit innings and the New York Mets hit four home runs Saturday in a 9-1 victory over a Detroit Tigers split squad. Perez and reliever Hisanori Takahashi combined to no-hit the Tigers through the first six innings. Magglio Ordonez singled in the seventh for Detroit. The Mets then erupted for nine runs in the seventh inning -- getting home runs from David Wright, Daniel...
Tiger manager Jim Leyland might complain about the weather if he thought it would do any good. "It's not OK, but it's OK," Leyland said after Friday's exhibition game against the Philadelphia Phillies was rained out. "You can't do anything about it so you just do the best you can.
Rain has forced the cancellation of the Philadelphia Phillies-Detroit Tigers exhibition game. Jeremy Bonderman and Nate Robertson were scheduled to pitch for the Tigers and Drew Naylor for Philadelphia's split squad. The Phillies' other scheduled game against the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte also has been rained out.
Joe Blanton used a mix of fastballs and changeups to shut down the Detroit Tigers, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 victory Thursday. Blanton has focused solely on the fastball-changeup combination in his first two spring starts before he incorporates breaking pitches into his repertoire. So far the results have been promising: Blanton held the Tigers to three singles in four innings of...
With the uncertain status of Brandon Webb, newcomer Edwin Jackson's performance thus far this spring must be comforting for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The right-hander, acquired in a trade with the Detroit Tigers in the offseason, blanked the Los Angeles Angels on one hit through three innings in Arizona's 4-1 victory on Thursday.

Jason Heyward made his first spring training homer a memorable one. The Atlanta Braves' 20-year-old right fielder almost cleared the batting cage behind the right-field wall Monday with a two-run homer off Max Scherzer in the first inning of a 12-4 exhibition victory over the Detroit Tigers. "That's one of the longer ones I've seen hit in this ballpark," said Braves manager...
