The Colorado
Rockies played there first season in 1993, and are named after
the mountain range that surrounds there home city of Denver, CO.
The Rockies
originally played at Mile High stadium before moving to Coors

fans have a nice view of the Rocky Mountains that are off in the
distance.
On April
9, 1993 Eric Young in his first Major League game, in the first
game at Mile High Stadium, hit the first home run at the Stadium.
The game drew 80,227 fans, the most ever to witness a baseball
game.
The Rockies
have only made the playoffs once; as the Wild Card team after
the 1995 season.
In 1998,
Mile High Stadium was the site of Major League Baseballs All-Star
Game.
In 1997,
Rockies outfielder Larry Walker won the National Leagues Most
Valuable Player Award.
<p>Ubaldo Jimenez took the mound Thursday hoping to end the Rockies' season-high eight-game losing streak and to reverse his fortunes. He succeeded on both counts.</p>
<p>Jimenez was coming off his shortest start of the season—two innings Saturday at Philadelphia. He was 2-1 with a 7.64 ERA in his past six starts dating to June 23. In his first two starts since the All-Star break, Jimenez had pitched a total of 7 1/3 innings and allowed 12 runs, 10 earned.</p> <p>Thanks to better mechanics and a mind-set of throwing with an easier motion rather than trying to unleash every last ounce of power, Jimenez improved to 16-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.67 by holding the Pirates to four hits and one run in seven innings during a 9-3 win.</p> <p>"What I noticed today," manager Jim Tracy said,...
Ubaldo Jimenez was back to All-Star form and the Rockies found their groove at the plate. It all adds up to one thing: A return to the win column for Colorado. Jimenez rebounded from two rough starts to pitch seven effective innings and the Rockies snapped an eight-game skid with a 9-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.
Investigators have determined that Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor's death in April was from natural causes, police said Thursday. McGregor was pronounced dead April 20 after being found in a Salt Lake City hotel room. He was 48. Salt Lake City police spokeswoman Sgt. Robin Snyder said Thursday that homicide detectives, who investigate all unintended deaths, received the state medical...
Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street is ready to pitch after recovering from an abdominal injury earlier this week. Street was hurt Tuesday when he was hit by a ball off the bat of teammate Ian Stewart during batting practice. Rockies manager Jim Tracy says Street worked out with trainer Keith Dugger on Thursday morning.
Hit in the head by a line drive, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ross Ohlendorf considered himself fortunate. Ohlendorf left after being struck on the right side of the face by Troy Tulowitzki's line drive in the first inning Wednesday night. The bruised starter was checked at a hospital and returned to Coors Field before the Pirates sent the Colorado Rockies to their eighth straight loss, 6-2.
The faltering Colorado Rockies were fed up and frustrated as their skid climbed to seven games. They're stranding runners, giving up late runs and, in a new twist, losing players to freak injuries. Zach Duke threw six solid innings to help the Pittsburgh Pirates snap a four-game skid Tuesday night with a 4-2 win over a struggling Rockies team that lost Huston Street to a bizarre injury before...
Colorado Rockies pitcher Huston Street was hit in the right pelvic area by a line drive in batting practice and taken off the field in an ambulance. The team said he was sent home to rest and his availability will be on a day-to-day basis. After being hit, Street was taken by ambulance to an emergency room for further examination.
Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street bruised the right side of his abdomen when he was hit by a line drive in batting practice Tuesday. The team said he was sent home to rest and his availability will be on a day-to-day basis. The accident quickly changed the mood for the Rockies, who were regaling in the return of All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki from the disabled list.
The Colorado Rockies are looking on the bright side after a woeful road trip: Troy Tulowitzki is back. The All-Star shortstop was activated Tuesday after missing nearly six weeks with a broken left wrist. At first, the Rockies didn't miss their best player, going 15-7 without him. But they went 2-9 on a brutal three-city trip after the break that dropped Colorado eight games behind NL West...
Philadelphia completed a four-game sweep of Colorado, but closer Brad Lidge knows he'll have to conquer his tendency for loading the bases if the Phillies are going to win their third National League title.
Brad Lidge pounced on the soft tapper from Ryan Spilborghs, set his feet and fired to first baseman Ryan Howard. Out. The Phillies closer had escaped yet another bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning, and Philadelphia held off the Colorado Rockies 5-4 Monday to complete a four-game sweep. Generally calm after saves, Lidge showed some emotion this time with a fist swipe.
The errant pitch bounced one way and Colorado Rockies catcher Miguel Olivo looked in the other direction. In that instant, Jimmy Rollins knew he would score. The Phillies speedy leadoff hitter easily streaked home on a wild pitch, scoring the go-ahead run in Philadelphia's come-from-behind, 4-3 win over Colorado on Sunday.
After being demoted to the minor leagues Tuesday, Philadelphia starter Kyle Kendrick said he had something to prove. The right-hander responded with one of his best outings of the season and, helped by the Phillies' re-emerging offense, led Philadelphia to a 10-2 win over Ubaldo Jimenez and the Colorado Rockies.
As the Philadelphia Phillies try to solve some surprising problems on offense, their pitching staff is coming on strong. Roy Halladay cruised through eight innings, Raul Ibanez drove in three runs with three hits and Philadelphia beat the Colorado Rockies 6-0 on Friday night for its second consecutive shutout.
Todd Helton has decided he needs to strengthen his legs before rejoining the Colorado Rockies. Helton, who is on the disabled list with a stiff back, was expected to report to Class-A Asheville on Wednesday to begin a rehabilitation assignment. Instead he decided to go to Denver for leg-strengthening exercises, manager Jim Tracy said Thursday.
