Phillies Information
Philadelphia
Phillies are one of two Major League Baseball franchises located
within the state of Pennsylvania. The other team in the state
is the Pittsburgh Pirates. Both teams play in the National League.
The old home
stadium of the Phillies was Veterans Stadium. Just next to the
location of this stadium they have their new arena known as Citizens
Bank Park. The park has a seating capacity of 43,500 fans. It
opened on April 9, 2004 and the first baseball game was played
on April 12th. It has natural grass and dirt playing field. Citizens
Bank Park is built on an area of 21 acres at a cost of $346 million.
Philadelphia
Phillies were begun as a franchise in 1883. The franchise was
known as the Philadelphia Blue Jays from 1943-1944. * The Phillies
have 7 Division Titles in there franchise history, making it to
the National League Championship Series in 6 of those postseasons.
As a franchise
the Phillies have made it to the World Series 5 times, and have
won once. Their one World Championship coming in 1980. BUY PHILLIES
TICKETS The Phillies started the season 20 games below .500 and
saw their manager get fired, and saw their best player be traded
away before the end of the season. Third basemen Scott Rolen was
traded to the St. Louis Cardinals shortly after the All-Star Break
when it became apparent that the team would not be able to keep
the star infielder. The Phillies finished the season with an 80-81
record, good enough for third place. The 2003 season would be
the teams last in Veterans Stadium, and expectations were high
after signing free agents Jim Thome, and alter Kevin Millwood.
However, the team would fail to meet these expectations going
86-76 and again missing the playoffs. The team would try to find
the missing ingredient to a Division Title by acquiring Billy
Wagner at the end of the season. Wagner would sit on the disabled
list twice during the 2004 season, and would only appear in 45
games as a closer. Other injuries hurt the Phillies chances, as
the team finished with the identical record as the season before
(86-76). Jim Thome hit 42 home runs and drove in 105 runs, making
his second year in Philadelphia a success.
PHILADELPHIA - A New Jersey man was sentenced to up to three months in jail Friday for vomiting on another spectator and his 11-year-old daughter in the stands at a Philadelphia Phillies game.
A 21-year-old New Jersey man was sentenced to jail Friday for vomiting on another spectator and his 11-year-old daughter in the stands at a Philadelphia Phillies game. Matthew Clemmens, of Cherry Hill, N.J., pleaded guilty in May to charges of assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and was sentenced to one to three months in jail, two years of probation and 50 hours of community service.
<p>In each of the previous three years, the Phillies have traded for a starting pitcher before the non-waiver trade deadline.</p>
<p>So when general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced Thursday afternoon that the team had acquired long-time Astros ace Roy Oswalt in a four-player deal Thursday afternoon, the Phillies were confident the trend would continue and the latest hired gun would help pitch them to the postseason.</p>
<p>"Having faced him plenty of times, I'm glad he's on our side now," Chase Utley said. "He's one of the tougher right-handers I've had to face, and I'm not just saying that—he's a tough at-bat. He's a little guy that throws hard, he's deceptive and changes speeds well.
Roy Oswalt granted his own wish: He's now part of a pennant race. Miguel Tejada, Jorge Cantu and Matt Capps joined the mix, too. The trade wheel of fortune kept spinning Thursday with veterans-for-prospects deals that typically dot the stretch run. More swaps were expected before Saturday's 4 p.m.

Wilson Valdez showed off his sparkling defensive skills before delivering a clutch hit. Valdez's RBI single with one out in the 11th inning lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to their eighth straight win, 3-2 over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night. Hours before the first pitch, the Phillies improved their chances at winning a fourth straight NL East title by acquiring three-time All-Star...
There's a new Roy in town -- and he's an ace, too. Three-time All-Star Roy Oswalt gave his OK to a trade from Houston to Philadelphia on Thursday, becoming the latest star pitcher to join the hard-charging Phillies. After getting Roy Halladay in the offseason, the two-time defending NL champions got Oswalt and a sizable amount of cash from the Astros for pitcher J.A.

Roy Halladay showed again why he is one of baseball's best pitchers. Domonic Brown proved he deserves to be labeled one of the game's top prospects. Halladay threw a six-hitter and Brown had two hits and two RBIs in his major league debut to lead the streaking Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-1 victory over the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.
The Philadelphia Phillies placed center fielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and called up touted prospect Domonic Brown from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 22-year-old Brown was in the starting lineup for the Phillies' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, playing right field and batting sixth.
While their injury list keeps growing, the Philadelphia Phillies are piling up victories. Ryan Howard hit a tiebreaking two-run homer, Jayson Werth and Cody Ransom also connected, and Philadelphia beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-5 for a season-high sixth straight win Tuesday night. The two-time NL champion Phillies moved within 3 1/2 games of East-leading Atlanta, cutting the deficit in half over...
Jimmy Rollins isn't in the Phillies' starting lineup because of bruised left foot. The three-time All-Star shortstop got hurt when he fouled a ball of his foot during Philadelphia's 5-4 win over Colorado on Monday. He finished the game. X-rays on the foot were negative and Rollins is listed as day-to-day.
