Phillies Information
- Philadelphia
Phillies are one of two Major League Baseball franchises located
within the state of Pennsylvania. The other team in the state
is the Pittsburgh Pirates. Both teams play in the National League.
- The old home
stadium of the Phillies was Veterans Stadium. Just next to the
location of this stadium they have their new arena known as Citizens
Bank Park. The park has a seating capacity of 43,500 fans. It
opened on April 9, 2004 and the first baseball game was played
on April 12th. It has natural grass and dirt playing field. Citizens
Bank Park is built on an area of 21 acres at a cost of $346 million.
- Philadelphia
Phillies were begun as a franchise in 1883. The franchise was
known as the Philadelphia Blue Jays from 1943-1944. * The Phillies
have 7 Division Titles in there franchise history, making it to
the National League Championship Series in 6 of those postseasons.
- As a franchise
the Phillies have made it to the World Series 5 times, and have
won once. Their one World Championship coming in 1980. BUY PHILLIES
TICKETS The Phillies started the season 20 games below .500 and
saw their manager get fired, and saw their best player be traded
away before the end of the season. Third basemen Scott Rolen was
traded to the St. Louis Cardinals shortly after the All-Star Break
when it became apparent that the team would not be able to keep
the star infielder. The Phillies finished the season with an 80-81
record, good enough for third place. The 2003 season would be
the teams last in Veterans Stadium, and expectations were high
after signing free agents Jim Thome, and alter Kevin Millwood.
However, the team would fail to meet these expectations going
86-76 and again missing the playoffs. The team would try to find
the missing ingredient to a Division Title by acquiring Billy
Wagner at the end of the season. Wagner would sit on the disabled
list twice during the 2004 season, and would only appear in 45
games as a closer. Other injuries hurt the Phillies chances, as
the team finished with the identical record as the season before
(86-76). Jim Thome hit 42 home runs and drove in 105 runs, making
his second year in Philadelphia a success.

Blanton shuts down Tigers in Phillies' 4-0 victory (AP)Joe Blanton used a mix of fastballs and changeups to shut down the Detroit Tigers, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 victory Thursday. Blanton has focused solely on the fastball-changeup combination in his first two spring starts before he incorporates breaking pitches into his repertoire. So far the results have been promising: Blanton held the Tigers to three singles in four innings of...
Phillies Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)<p>Making his first Grapefruit League start for the Phillies on March 4, Roy Halladay never found himself in a jam.</p>
<p>At least not until the game was over.</p>
<p>Halladay threw 24 pitches, 21 strikes in two hitless innings against a stripped-down version of the Yankees (Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson stayed home) before a sold-out crowd at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. Among those in the stands: His 9-year-old son.</p>
<p>How would Halladay explain why his son missed school?</p>
<p>"I don't know what we called him in with," Halladay said with a smile, "but the cat might be out of the bag now."</p>
<p>Braden Halladay, the staunchest advocate of his dad's decision to approve a trade to the Phillies in December, was not going to miss this.
Phillies closer Brad Lidge set to appear in game (AP)Philadelphia Phillies closer Brad Lidge faced hitters Wednesday for the first time since offseason surgeries on his right elbow and right knee. Lidge threw 21 pitches to Ozzie Chavez and Chris Duffy at Philadelphia's training complex in Clearwater, Fla. The 33-year-old right-hander then went through a round of fielding drills.
Drabek pitches well for Blue Jays in loss to Phils (AP)Kyle Drabek, the pitcher the Toronto Blue Jays coveted and finally got in the trade that sent ace Roy Halladay to Philadelphia, tried to treat Wednesday's start against the Phillies like any other game. It was good advice from his father, 1990 National League Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek. The result: two scoreless innings, one walk and one hit allowed in the Phillies' 4-2 victory.
Halladay shuts down Braves (AP)This time last year, Billy Wagner was facing little leaguers in Virginia and recovering from elbow surgery. The former All-Star closer, signed by the Braves in the offseason, retired all three batters he faced Tuesday night in Atlanta's 7-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies and said he felt comfortable for the first time this spring.

After that, the right-hander provided a glimpse of what the Yankees are hoping to get from him in his return to New York: a consistent starter who will take some of the pressure off the rest of the rotation. Much to the delight of Philadelphia's vocal fans -- and some mocking Yankees supporters -- Jimmy Rollins...</p><br clear="all" />
Phillies like what they see from OF prospect Brown (AP)For the first time in three games, Dominic Brown's name was not in the Philadelphia Phillies' starting lineup when it was posted in the team's clubhouse on Monday. But with the way the top prospect has played in the first week of exhibition baseball in Florida, Brown is primed to be an everyday staple in the Phillies' star-studded batting order in the near future.

Happ, Aumont pitch well for Phillies (AP)J.A. Happ and Phillippe Aumont felt better after their second spring outings. Happ and Aumont combined for five scoreless innings in the Philadelphia Phillies' 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Happ allowed two hits, walked two and struck out two in 2 1-3 innings.
