The Florida Marlins
franchise joined Major League Baseball as part of the 1993 expansion.
In there short history the Marlins have already won 2 World
Series championships. One in 1997 against the Indians,
the other in 2003 against the Yankees. The
2007 version of the Florida Marlins does not appear to be a championship
caliber baseball team unfortunately for there fans. As the old saying
goes though, that is why they play the game. These Marlins are not
hopeless and do have some young talent that makes the fans have hope.
Young players such as Dontrelle Willis, Miguel Cabrera, Dan Uggla,
Hanley Ramirez, and Jeremy Hermida have the Marlins fans hopeful for
more world series championships in south Florida soon.

Information
When the
Marlins have winning seasons, they make them count. Two out of
the three times the Marlins have finished over .500 in their 10-year
history, they have won the World Series.
The team
was named the Marlins because the fish is a fierce fighter and
an adversary that tests your mettle. Buy Marlins Tickets In 2002
the Marlins were sold to former Expos owner Peter Loria. After
the sale, Marlins fans lost interest in the team, and the team
performed poorly. In 2003, the Marlins started slowly, but came
back to claim their second playoff berth. Entering the playoffs
few gave the Marlins any chance, however they defeated the San
Francisco Giants in the NLDS and the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS
to advance to their second World Series. In the World Series,
the Marlins met the New York Yankees, and again were not given
much of a shot, but the Marlins defeated the Yankees for their
second World Championship. The Marlins entered the 2004 season
with high hopes after winning the 2003 World Series, but despite
finishing above .500 they fell short of reaching the postseason.

Center fielder Cameron Maybin, a guy who's historically a slow starter, didn't exactly get off to a solid start this spring.

Maybin sat out a handful of games to rest his strained left groin, an injury that occurred March 7 when he was running the bases.

Maybin wasn't the only Marlins player battling an injury. Right fielder Cody Ross missed several games with a strained left groin, and catcher John Baker missed time because of a sore right forearm.

Both Ross and Baker were expected to return to action first in the designated hitter slot. If that went well, they were to play the field a day or two later.

Right-handed reliever Derrick Turnbow had been slowed by shoulder tightness.

The biggest question was Maybin.
Tommy Hanson pitched like he was in midseason form Wednesday for the Atlanta Braves. Hanson allowed one run on six hits in five innings in Atlanta's 4-2 win over the Marlins. It was the longest outing of the spring for Hanson, projected to be Atlanta's No. 3 starter. "Really sharp. Best he's looked all spring," said manager Bobby Cox.
A three-game series between the New York Mets and Florida Marlins in June has been moved from Miami to Puerto Rico, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The shift to San Juan's Hiram Bithorn Stadium had been discussed for months pending an agreement between Major League Baseball and the players' association.
Manager Bobby Cox knows who will be in his starting rotation on opening day. He also knows Billy Wagner will be his closer. After that, he has more pieces of the puzzle to work out. There are likely six spots available in the Braves' bullpen to bridge the gap between Wagner and the starters. Cox isn't complaining, but when each audition turns out well, Cox has to start wondering who gets to...
Sure, they're only exhibition games. But it's still nice to win -- especially for a team that had been 0-for-spring training. The Washington Nationals, who led the majors last year with 103 losses, ended an 0-11 skid Tuesday with a pair of split-squad victories. They beat the Florida Marlins 12-3 with four home runs, including a grand slam by Willie Harris.
Former All-Star closer Derrick Turnbow says his chances of making the Florida Marlins are "over" after he left Tuesday's game with severe shoulder pain. Turnbow said he was sure he would "be shutdown for while." He exited Florida's 12-3 victory against the Nationals in the eighth inning.
Chris Volstad hurt his chances at solidifying a spot in the Marlins' rotation, allowing four runs in 2 1-3 innings in Florida's 5-4 victory over the Twins on Monday. Volstad allowed five hits and four walks. He has given up eight runs on 11 hits and five walks in his last two outings. "The first few innings were good.
Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez was scratched from Monday's exhibition game against Minnesota because of a tight groin but said he expects to play Tuesday. Ramirez told the team he felt a little sore running the bases during batting practice. He had treatment during the game, then said the problem was "nothing." Donnie Murphy replaced Ramirez in the lineup and hit eighth.
Johan Santana resembled the pitcher on Sunday that many call the premier left-hander in the game the last six years. Santana pitched four scoreless innings against the Marlins, allowing three hits in his second spring training start since undergoing surgery on his left elbow in September. Santana and fellow Venezuelan Anibal Sanchez left a scoreless game before the Marlins did all their scoring in...
Ricky Nolasco had a solid outing and the Florida Marlins scored four runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-5 on Saturday. Nolasco scattered four hits over four innings, striking out four and yielding one run to drop his spring ERA to 2.57. Marlins catcher Ronny Paulino went 2 for 3 with an RBI single off of Rays starter Matt Garza in the third inning.
After Friday's game between the Florida Marlins and Baltimore Orioles was canceled because of rain, to give pitchers extra work the Marlins and Orioles scheduled a 7-inning game at Sarasota on Saturday morning. Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sean West will start. Mark Hendrickson will start for the Orioles.
The Florida Marlins got another strong start from ace Josh Johnson but a bad ending from their closer Thursday. Johnson struck out four in three scoreless innings before the St. Louis Cardinals beat up on closer Leo Nunez during a five-run ninth for a 5-3 win. Nunez, who saved 26 games last season, allowed four hits before leaving with two outs and runners at second and third.
Hayden Penn made a case for himself in the competition for one of the Marlins' three remaining rotation spots, while another hopeful arm wasn't quite as sharp. Penn, a 25-year-old right-hander, started and retired nine straight batters during three perfect innings of work, and the Marlins got back-to-back home runs from outfield prospect Mike Stanton and Dan Uggla in a 16-4 win over the...
Tim Wakefield spent a lot more time on the road than on the mound Tuesday, which was fine with him. The knuckleballer made the three-hour trip from Fort Myers and pitched three shutout innings to keep his spring training ERA at 0.00, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Florida Marlins 9-0. The visitors' batting order looked like a lineup for the Pawtucket Red Sox, with designated hitter Jacoby...

Maine threw 1 2-3 innings in his spring debut Monday, finishing with four strikeouts in the New York Mets' 11-2 victory over a Florida Marlins split-squad. "I was pleased," said Maine, who allowed one run, two hits and one walk.

The line score, while not pretty, wasn't as important to Washington Nationals left-hander Scott Olsen as how his surgically repaired shoulder felt in its first test. Olsen, making his first start since season-ending surgery last July, threw two innings in the Nationals' 11-2 loss against a Florida Marlins split squad Monday.
Florida Marlins center fielder Cameron Maybin learned a scary lesson over the weekend. Maybin said his strained left groin felt better Monday, but he'll miss at least a few spring training games. He was hurt rounding third base while scoring from first on a double Sunday against St. Louis. "I was trying to hit another gear," Maybin said.
