The Florida Marlins
franchise joined Major League Baseball as part of the 1993 expansion.
In there short history the Marlins have already won 2 World
Series championships. One in 1997 against the Indians,
the other in 2003 against the Yankees. The
2007 version of the Florida Marlins does not appear to be a championship
caliber baseball team unfortunately for there fans. As the old saying
goes though, that is why they play the game. These Marlins are not
hopeless and do have some young talent that makes the fans have hope.
Young players such as Dontrelle Willis, Miguel Cabrera, Dan Uggla,
Hanley Ramirez, and Jeremy Hermida have the Marlins fans hopeful for
more world series championships in south Florida soon.

Information
When the
Marlins have winning seasons, they make them count. Two out of
the three times the Marlins have finished over .500 in their 10-year
history, they have won the World Series.
The team
was named the Marlins because the fish is a fierce fighter and
an adversary that tests your mettle. Buy Marlins Tickets In 2002
the Marlins were sold to former Expos owner Peter Loria. After
the sale, Marlins fans lost interest in the team, and the team
performed poorly. In 2003, the Marlins started slowly, but came
back to claim their second playoff berth. Entering the playoffs
few gave the Marlins any chance, however they defeated the San
Francisco Giants in the NLDS and the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS
to advance to their second World Series. In the World Series,
the Marlins met the New York Yankees, and again were not given
much of a shot, but the Marlins defeated the Yankees for their
second World Championship. The Marlins entered the 2004 season
with high hopes after winning the 2003 World Series, but despite
finishing above .500 they fell short of reaching the postseason.
<p>The Marlins are giving prospects Logan Morrison and Gaby Sanchez every chance to win the first base job this spring, but they have a backup plan if those two prospects fail to show they're ready.</p>
<p>Infielder Jorge Jimenez arrived in camp competing for a bench spot, but he could wind up starting at third base and moving Jorge Cantu to first base.</p>
<p>"Who knows—Jimenez may win the job. We've got that kind of flexibility," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Let's not put it out of the realm of possibility. If he plays good, he could play third and put Jorge at first. It fits."</p> <p>Jimenez was taken by Houston in the Rule 5 draft (from the Red Sox) in December but was immediately traded to the Marlins to complete the Matt Lindstrom trade.</p> <p>Jimenez played 126 games at third...
Hayden Penn made a case for himself in the competition for one of the Marlins' three remaining rotation spots, while another hopeful arm wasn't quite as sharp. Penn, a 25-year-old right-hander, started and retired nine straight batters during three perfect innings of work, and the Marlins got back-to-back home runs from outfield prospect Mike Stanton and Dan Uggla in a 16-4 win over the...
Tim Wakefield spent a lot more time on the road than on the mound Tuesday, which was fine with him. The knuckleballer made the three-hour trip from Fort Myers and pitched three shutout innings to keep his spring training ERA at 0.00, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Florida Marlins 9-0. The visitors' batting order looked like a lineup for the Pawtucket Red Sox, with designated hitter Jacoby...

Maine threw 1 2-3 innings in his spring debut Monday, finishing with four strikeouts in the New York Mets' 11-2 victory over a Florida Marlins split-squad. "I was pleased," said Maine, who allowed one run, two hits and one walk.</p><br clear="all" />
The line score, while not pretty, wasn't as important to Washington Nationals left-hander Scott Olsen as how his surgically repaired shoulder felt in its first test. Olsen, making his first start since season-ending surgery last July, threw two innings in the Nationals' 11-2 loss against a Florida Marlins split squad Monday.
Florida Marlins center fielder Cameron Maybin learned a scary lesson over the weekend. Maybin said his strained left groin felt better Monday, but he'll miss at least a few spring training games. He was hurt rounding third base while scoring from first on a double Sunday against St. Louis. "I was trying to hit another gear," Maybin said.
Marlins center fielder Cameron Maybin strained his left groin during the eighth inning of the St. Louis Cardinals' 7-4 victory over Florida on Sunday. Maybin was injured while stepping on third base as he was trying to score from first on Donnie Murphy's double. He hobbled home before being escorted to the clubhouse by a trainer.

Bobby Valentine says he was never offered the Florida Marlins' manager job last October, contrary to speculation at the time. Valentine says the rumors were "an unnecessary nuisance" for him and Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez. The Marlins' front office did little to discount the rumors at the end of last season.
The Marlins' Chris Volstad and Mets' Jon Niese each looked sharp in their spring mound debuts and Florida beat a New York split squad 4-3 in 10 innings Friday. The Mets played without shortstop Jose Reyes, who was sent back to New York for further medical tests after it was discovered he had a thyroid imbalance.
Florida Marlins catcher John Baker has been scratched from their game against the New York Mets because of tenderness in his throwing arm. The ailment is not considered serious, but manager Fredi Gonzalez said Baker probably will be kept out of action Saturday as a precaution. Minor league catcher Brett Hayes replaced Baker in the starting lineup Friday against the Mets.

One of the Florida Marlins' young, unproven starting pitchers has just emerged from the shower, towel in hand, when he encounters coach Randy St. Claire, who commences a tutorial on how to tweak an inconsistent delivery. Hair-drying and getting dressed can wait. For St. Claire, the Marlins' new pitching coach, spring training is a series of teachable moments with his young staff.
Hanley Ramirez tried out an aluminum bat in batting practice Wednesday, then used wood to hit a three-run homer on the second pitch to him in spring training, and the Florida Marlins beat the Miami Hurricanes 19-3. Ramirez singled in the third inning to finish 2 for 2 and scored twice. He borrowed one of the Hurricanes' aluminum bats before the game, hit several balls over the fence and said he...
Dan Uggla did everything but pack. He accepted the likelihood he would be traded this winter by the Florida Marlins. He embraced the notion of a fresh start with a new team. And he worked out like crazy. "I was trying to prepare myself as best I could if I was going to be with a new organization, so I could be in shape and not be the guy who comes into spring training out of shape," Uggla...
