Indians Baseball Merchandise - Hats, Jerseys and Watches
The
2007 Cleveland Indians baseball fans have high expectations for this
talented group of players. Many sports writers have picked the tribe
to win the world series in 2007.
In order for the Indians to make a playoff run they will need big
seasons from Grady Sizemore, Victor Martinez , C.C. Sabathia, Travis
Hafner, and Joe Borowski. The Indians are in one of the toughest divisions
in baseball, the AL Central. The defending AL champ Tigers,
White Sox, Twins,
and Royals make the road to the playoffs
a rough one for any team. These Indians should be favored to win the
AL Central in 2007.

The city
of Cleveland has one of the oldest baseball traditions in the
country. Professional baseball started in Cleveland in 1869 when
the Red Stockings played Forest City. The city was part of the
first professional league called the National Association in 1971,
although that league only lasted one year.
The city
was also represented in the National League in 1879. The franchise
now known as the Indians began as the Cleveland Blues in 1901
as a member of the American League.
They soon
became known as the Naps from 1903-1914 due to their star player
Napoleon Lajoie, before he went to Philadelphia. They were also
briefly known as the Spiders and the Broncos before settling on
the Indians in 1915.
In 1947 the
Indians were the first American League team to break the color
barrier when they hired Larry Doby, the first black man to play
in the junior circuit. Over the years the Indians have enjoyed
a variety of great players such as Stan Coveleski, Bob Feller,
Nap Lajoie, Bob Lemon, Satchel Paige, Gaylord Perry, Frank Robinson,
Tris Speaker, and CY Young. The Indians have had an roller coast
existence. They won the World Series in 1920 and 1948, but have
also gone 40 years without winning the American League Pennant
from 1954 to 1995. Recently they have won the American League
Central Division title from 1995 to 2001.

The Indians only managed six hits in an 11-4 loss to the Yankees on Thursday, but one of the hits was a single by Jayson Nix. Prior to the game, manager Manny Acta announced that Nix would be the team's new third baseman.

The position opened up Wednesday, when Cleveland traded third baseman Jhonny Peralta to Detroit. Nix had played second base exclusively for the Indians since they claimed him off waivers from the White Sox on June 24.

However, Nix does have some experience playing third base. Prior to Thursday, he had started 20 games at third base during his career, including 12 games this year for the White Sox.

Acta said Nix would get the first crack to claim the job, but there are some other options.
Alex Rodriguez drove in three runs without hitting his 600th homer and New York used a seven-run seventh inning to beat Cleveland 11-4 on Thursday night. Dustin Moseley (1-0) won his first start, allowing a run and four hits over six innings as New York took three of four in a lopsided series that saw A-Rod extend his homerless streak to seven games.
Alex Rodriguez prefers victories to hitting home runs -- even historic homers. Rodriguez drove in three runs without hitting his 600th homer and the New York Yankees used a seven-run seventh inning to beat the Cleveland Indians 11-4 Thursday night. Dustin Moseley (1-0) won his first start, allowing a run and four hits over six innings as New York took three of four in a series that saw A-Rod's...
Mitch Talbot of the Cleveland Indians left his start in the top of the third inning against the New York Yankees with what the team called a mid-back injury. The right-hander had a 2-0 count on Derek Jeter after Colin Curtis led off the inning with a sharp single through the middle. Talbot walked the bases loaded in the second before grabbing a one-hopper off the bat of Francisco Cervelli and...
Travis Hafner has been scratched from the Cleveland Indians' starting lineup to rest his surgically repaired right shoulder. The veteran designated hitter was replaced by Shelley Duncan to start the final game of a four-game series with the New York Yankees. Hafner has had fatigue in his shoulder the past couple of seasons and is often forced to take a day off.
Alex Rodriguez kept his sense of humor and A.J. Burnett rediscovered his wicked curveball. Rodriguez had two hits, but not homer No. 600, to support another sharp outing by a resurgent Burnett and the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 8-0 on Wednesday night. Each time Rodriguez strode to the plate, hundreds of fans left their seats and jammed a walkway between the left-field pole and the...

CLEVELAND - A fan wearing a Miami Heat jersey of LeBron James drew the ire of the crowd at a Cleveland Indians game and was escorted out of the ballpark.
The banged-up Detroit Tigers acquired third baseman Jhonny Peralta from the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday for minor league left-hander Giovanni Soto. Detroit also received cash considerations in the trade. Peralta will fill-in for Brandon Inge, the Tigers' injured third baseman. "I was trying to do something to help our ballclub and do something to stay in this," Detroit general...
Facing a kid making his first major league start, Alex Rodriguez was hoping to get his 600th career home run. Instead he went 0 for 4 on his 35th birthday
If Josh Tomlin was in awe of Alex Rodriguez and the mighty New York Yankees, he didn't show it. Tomlin took a shutout into the eighth inning against A-Rod and the rest of New York's potent lineup to win his major league debut with the Cleveland Indians, 4-1 on Tuesday night. "That was an outstanding effort by the kid," Indians manager Manny Acta said.
Josh Tomlin will have a couple of big tests when he makes his big-league debut for the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old will oppose the New York Yankees and Alex Rodriguez, who is hoping to hit his 600th career homer. Manager Manny Acta doesn't think the right-hander will be fazed by facing the Yankees, who have the best record in the majors at 63-35.
Yankees fans got two big home runs from their favorite team -- just not the one they really came out to see. Curtis Granderson hit a two-run shot, though Alex Rodriguez failed to connect for his 600th homer in New York's 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians on Monday night. Nick Swisher also homered for New York, now 16-5 in July.
Reid Brignac liked his defense even more than his three-run homer. So did Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon. Brignac staked Wade Davis to a 3-1 lead with one swing, then made a diving stop to help the right-hander remain unbeaten in July as the Rays beat the Cleveland Indians 4-2 Sunday. "I was at the right place at the right time," Brignac said of taking away at least one run and possibly two...
