Los
Angeles Dodgers Baseball Caps, Merchandise and Apparel
The
LA Dodgers have a solid baseball team that should compete well against
the Diamondbacks, Padres,
Rockies, and Giants
for the NL West division championship. Key players for the 2007 Dodgers
are Russell Martin, Nomar Garciaparra, Rafael Furcal, Derek Lowe ,
Brad Penny, Takashi Saito, Luis Gonzalez, Juan Pierre, and Jeff Kent.
The Dodgers have not won the world series
since 1988, who knows, maybe this is the year if they stay healthy?

Information
The Dodgers
got their name from the early 20th century and their days in Brooklyn.
Pedestrians had to dodge trolleys that crisscrossed the city before
the car was invented and were called trolley dodgers.
The beloved
Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in time for the home opener
on April 18, 1958. In just their second year in LA the Dodgers
defeated the Chicago White Sox in the World Series.
Playing in
the old LA Memorial Coliseum the Dodgers attracted a record crowd
of 92,394 to game 3 of the 1959 World Series. That’s over
36,000 more fans than Dodger Stadium, built a few years later,
can hold.
The legendary
Jackie Robinson played for the Dodgers from 1947 through 1956.
He was the first African American to play in the Major Leagues
and was inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 23, 1962.
After being
struck in the throat by a piece of broken bat, Dodgers catcher
Steve Yeager invented a hanging throat protector on a catcher’s
mask to prevent similar injuries. Buy Dodgers Tickets Early offensive
problems along with a string of injuries made it tough for the
Dodgers in 2002 but they were able to overcome these setbacks
and maintain contention for the NL West and the Wild Card spot
into the playoffs. Unfortunately the Dodgers finished just 3 games
out of the playoffs finishing in 3rd place. The year wasn’t
all bad as Eric Gagne starts to make a name for himself as possibly
the most dominant closer in the game. On May 23rd Shawn green
hit 4 HRs, a double, and a single to set the single game record
for total bases at 19. 2003 proved to be even more of a struggle
than 2002 as the Dodgers offense puts up a league worst 574 runs
all season. Despite having the worst offense in baseball, the
Dodgers pitching staff becomes the best in the league posting
a team ERA of just 3.16. Eric Gagne continues his closing duties
for the team recording 55 saves in the same number of opportunities.
Shawn Green was not exempt from the team wide hitting slump as
he hits only 19 homers all year. The dodgers would finish the
year with a record of 85-77. Forgetting the struggles of 2003
the Dodgers played very solid ball basically all year long as
they finish the regular season 93-69, good enough to win the NL
West Division. The Dodgers would meet up with the high powered
St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS. After dropping the first two
in St. Louis the Dodgers faced elimination from the 5 game series
as it came back to the west. An exciting and stellar pitching
performance by Jose Lima ignites a spark within the Dodgers as
they win game 3 and keep their hopes alive. However, in game 4
the power bats of the Cardinals rally and outscore the Dodgers
for the win. In the off season would bring drastic lineup changes
to the Dodgers as general manager Paul DePodesta restructures
the entire team. 6 of the everyday starters on opening day were
traded along with opening day starting pitcher Hideo Nomo, ALDS
game 3 winner Jose Lima and 12 other players. Newly acquired J.D.
Drew can hopefully provide the bat the Dodgers are looking for
as they start rebuilding for 2005.

Not that he was expected to be a one-man savior, but Scott Podsednik could only do so much to ignite a dormant Dodgers offense in his debut.

The newest Dodger went 0-for-3 with a walk and stolen base as the Dodgers' offensive misery continued.

In the 14 games since the All-Star break, the Dodgers have been shut out once, scored one run four times, two runs five times (including Thursday), three runs once, four runs twice, and five runs once. That's an average of 2.1 runs a game, and it's remarkable the Dodgers actually won five of six games in one stretch.

Podsednik caught a morning flight to San Diego, arrived at Petco Park less than three hours before first pitch, started in center field (as Matt Kemp was given a day off), batted leadoff and had teammates hoping...
Oscar Salazar's single in the bottom of the ninth gave the National League West-leading San Diego Padres a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. The Padres took two of three games in the series, opening a seven-game gap between them. The California rivals will meet again in a four-game series at Dodger Stadium starting Monday.
The San Diego Padres are no longer a surprise to Joe Torre and the Los Angeles Dodgers. "We've been past that point, in my mind," Torre said after watching Oscar Salazar deliver a pinch-hit single with one out in the ninth inning to give the NL West-leading Padres a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers on Thursday to take two of three games.
Scott Podsednik is batting leadoff and playing center field in his first game with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Podsednik was obtained on Wednesday from the Kansas City Royals. He took a flight to San Diego on Thursday morning and joined his new team in time for a series finale against the NL West-leading San Diego Padres.
As Adrian Gonzalez's at-bat dragged on, Tony Gwynn Jr. stood on second base, constantly checking out how deep center fielder Matt Kemp was playing. When Gonzalez hit a bloop one-out single that fell in just in front of Kemp, Gwynn took off for home, sparking the NL West-leading San Diego Padres to a 6-1 win over the rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Scott Podsednik from the Kansas City Royals for a pair of minor leaguers Wednesday night, trying to replenish their outfield and boost their chances in the NL West. The trade was announced before Los Angeles played at San Diego. The Dodgers began the day five games behind the division-leading Padres.
Andre Ethier was too sick to start in right field for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He felt good enough to pinch-hit, though. Ethier delivered a clutch two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning off Jon Garland to give the Dodgers a 2-0 win over the NL West-leading San Diego Padres on Tuesday night, the first of seven games between the division rivals in 10 days.
Four more minor league baseball players have been suspended for 50 games each following positive drug tests. Washington shortstop Pedro Lopez, Detroit first baseman Cesar Nicolas, Pittsburgh pitcher Jose Acosta and free agent first baseman Jorge Castillo were penalized Tuesday by the commissioner's office.
Baltimore infielder Ty Wigginton has had his suspension cut to two games while Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw is set to sit out five games. Both players originally appealed their penalties from last week. Major League Baseball announced the outcomes Monday. Wigginton's suspension was reduced from three games after he agreed to drop his appeal.
Joe Torre was the first and last major league manager to be ejected by umpire Doug Harvey. And on the day Harvey was inducted into the Hall of Fame, Torre admitted he went looking for that final thumb. "I didn't know I was his first one until he told me about a month before," Torre recalled Sunday before his Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Mets.
The added incentive behind Clayton Kershaw's stellar performance had more to do with a tired bullpen than the fact that it was his first start since appealing a five-game suspension. Kershaw scattered seven hits over eight innings and Russell Martin hit an eighth-inning RBI double in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 1-0 victory over the punchless New York Mets on Sunday.

Dodgers pitcher Carlos Monasterios was struck on the right side of the head by a foul ball off the bat of Carlos Beltran while sitting in the Los Angeles dugout in the fourth inning of a game against the New York Mets. A Dodgers spokesman says Sunday that Monasterios never lost consciousness. Monasterios was examined by team physician Neal ElAttrache and appeared to be doing fine, adding that...
James Loney was willing to do whatever it took to help the Dodgers pull out a marathon victory against the New York Mets -- even pitch. He made sure it wasn't necessary. Loney homered in the 13th inning, giving the Dodgers a 3-2 victory on Saturday. The easygoing first baseman's seventh homer of the season was even more timely because manager Joe Torre had no true relievers left in his...
Johan Santana rarely kept the ball down. No matter, his teammates were all over the outfield making dramatic catches and generating some rare offensive support. Santana tossed seven strong innings, Ike Davis homered and the New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Friday night, snapping a four-game skid.
A small brush fire that burned in the hills next to Dodger Stadium north of downtown Los Angeles has been contained. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Devin Gales says it took 69 firefighters just under an hour to contain that blaze that broke out late Friday afternoon. It burned three acres. The blaze produced a big plume of smoke visible from downtown freeways and to fans about to watch the...
