Angeles Dodgers Baseball Caps, Merchandise and Apparel
The
LA Dodgers have a solid baseball team that should compete well against
the Diamondbacks, Padres,
Rockies, and Giants
for the NL West division championship. Key players for the 2007 Dodgers
are Russell Martin, Nomar Garciaparra, Rafael Furcal, Derek Lowe ,
Brad Penny, Takashi Saito, Luis Gonzalez, Juan Pierre, and Jeff Kent.

Information
The Dodgers
got their name from the early 20th century and their days in Brooklyn.
Pedestrians had to dodge trolleys that crisscrossed the city before
the car was invented and were called trolley dodgers.
The beloved
Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in time for the home opener
on April 18, 1958. In just their second year in LA the Dodgers
defeated the Chicago White Sox in the World Series.
Playing in
the old LA Memorial Coliseum the Dodgers attracted a record crowd
of 92,394 to game 3 of the 1959 World Series. That’s over
36,000 more fans than Dodger Stadium, built a few years later,
can hold.
The legendary
Jackie Robinson played for the Dodgers from 1947 through 1956.
He was the first African American to play in the Major Leagues
and was inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 23, 1962.
After being
struck in the throat by a piece of broken bat, Dodgers catcher
Steve Yeager invented a hanging throat protector on a catcher’s
mask to prevent similar injuries. Buy Dodgers Tickets Early offensive
problems along with a string of injuries made it tough for the
Dodgers in 2002 but they were able to overcome these setbacks
and maintain contention for the NL West and the Wild Card spot
into the playoffs. Unfortunately the Dodgers finished just 3 games
out of the playoffs finishing in 3rd place. The year wasn’t
all bad as Eric Gagne starts to make a name for himself as possibly
the most dominant closer in the game. On May 23rd Shawn green
hit 4 HRs, a double, and a single to set the single game record
for total bases at 19. 2003 proved to be even more of a struggle
than 2002 as the Dodgers offense puts up a league worst 574 runs
all season. Despite having the worst offense in baseball, the
Dodgers pitching staff becomes the best in the league posting
a team ERA of just 3.16. Eric Gagne continues his closing duties
for the team recording 55 saves in the same number of opportunities.
Shawn Green was not exempt from the team wide hitting slump as
he hits only 19 homers all year. The dodgers would finish the
year with a record of 85-77. Forgetting the struggles of 2003
the Dodgers played very solid ball basically all year long as
they finish the regular season 93-69, good enough to win the NL
West Division. The Dodgers would meet up with the high powered
St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS. After dropping the first two
in St. Louis the Dodgers faced elimination from the 5 game series
as it came back to the west. An exciting and stellar pitching
performance by Jose Lima ignites a spark within the Dodgers as
they win game 3 and keep their hopes alive. However, in game 4
the power bats of the Cardinals rally and outscore the Dodgers
for the win. In the off season would bring drastic lineup changes
to the Dodgers as general manager Paul DePodesta restructures
the entire team. 6 of the everyday starters on opening day were
traded along with opening day starting pitcher Hideo Nomo, ALDS
game 3 winner Jose Lima and 12 other players. Newly acquired J.D.
Drew can hopefully provide the bat the Dodgers are looking for
as they start rebuilding for 2005.
Manny Ramirez went 3 for 4 and scored three runs to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 11-1 victory over the Taiwanese All-Stars on Sunday in the final game of a rain-shortened exhibition series in Taiwan. James Loney also had three hits for the Dodgers, while minor league prospect Trayvon Robinson had a two-run homer and three RBIs.
Designated hitter Manny Ramirez went 3 for 4 to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 11-1 victory over the Taiwanese All-Stars on Sunday in the final game of a rain-shortened exhibition series in Taiwan. Minor league prospect Trayvon Robinson also contributed a two-run homer for the Dodgers in the southern Taiwanese county of Kaohsiung.

The recent groin injury that will sideline Russell Martin for at least a month will give the Dodgers a chance to test their depth at the catching position.

The biggest benefactor of Martin's injury will be career minor-leaguer A.J. Ellis, who has just 13 big-league at-bats to his credit. Ellis, 28, has been in the Dodgers organization since being drafted in the 18th round in 2003.

Ellis was being projected as Martin's backup before the Dodgers re-signed veteran Brad Ausmus late in the offseason. While not objecting to the Dodgers' idea of giving Ellis a bulk of the catching duties, Ausmus said that despite turning 41 on April 14, he could handle the extra work if necessary.

The Dodgers will also get a chance to take a closer look at highly regarded prospect Lucas...
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Chad Billingsley didn't throw change-ups often last season. But he worked on the pitch during Saturday's spring training outing and was pleased with the results. Billingsley threw three scoreless innings in a 7-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Tucson Electric Park.
The second game of a three-game exhibition series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and a team of Taiwanese All-Stars has been canceled because of rain. The Saturday contest was set for Taipei. The concluding game in the series is scheduled for Sunday in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung.
Aroldis Chapman struck out two over two scoreless innings and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Friday. Chapman allowed just two infield singles. His strikeouts came on the last two batters he faced, overpowering Matt Kemp on a high fastball and getting Casey Blake looking. Chapman defected from Cuba last year and agreed to a $30.25 million, six-year contract with the Reds in...
The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking into contingency plans for their opening-day bullpen while Ronald Belisario tries to report to camp. Belisario has been unable to secure a visa for the 2010 season and remains in his native Venezuela. The right-hander went 4-3 with a 2.04 ERA in 69 games as a rookie last year, helping Los Angeles win the NL West.
Russ Ortiz is battling tall odds to earn a rotation slot, but if he continues to pitch as well as he did for Los Angeles on Thursday it will be difficult for the Dodgers not to keep him. Ortiz gave up two singles, one not leaving the infield, and struck out three in three scoreless innings as the Dodgers defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-4.
Brian Giles says the pain in his arthritic right knee is getting worse, and the 39-year-old outfielder informed the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday that he will retire. Giles is a career .291 hitter with 287 home runs and 1,078 RBI in 1,847 games. The two-time All-Star also played for the San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland, calling his trip to the World Series with the Indians in...
Don Mattingly's first day as Dodgers interim manager featured a humorous gaffe. Los Angeles batted out of order against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday but Andre Ethier took advantage of the mix-up, leading off the fourth inning with his first spring homer. The Dodgers and Diamondbacks called it off with the game tied at 4 after nine innings.
On his first day as Dodgers interim manager, hitting coach Don Mattingly said Wednesday that the team has made overtures about him eventually becoming Joe Torre's permanent replacement.

Felling better than he has in years, Rafael Furcal is poised to put two years of frustration behind him. The Dodgers shortstop suffered a lower back injury in 2008 that eventually required surgery. He played all of the 2009 season but admits now that he wasn't at full strength. Those last two Dodgers teams advanced to the NL Championship series, and while Furcal played in the playoffs both...
Dodgers catcher Russell Martin is expected to miss opening day after an MRI revealed a pulled groin. Martin first felt discomfort during a running drill a few days before the Dodgers' first spring game Friday. He started Friday's game against the White Sox and played five innings, even stealing a base.
