Jays Information
Toronto is
added to the list of Major League cities in 1976 as the expansion
team the Blue Jays is started. The first game in Toronto was won
by the Blue Jays on April 7th, 1977 as they outscored the White
Sox 9-5 in the snow at Exhibition Stadium.
The name
the Blue Jays was selected through a “Name the Team”
contest in which there were 30,000 entries.
Despite losing
107 games in their first season the Blue Jays attracted 1,701,052
fans setting a new record for attendance to an exhibition team.
The Blue
Jays won back to back World Series Championships in 1992 and 1993
defeating the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies.
The Jays
played in Exhibition Stadium from 1977 to 1988 before the move
to the Skydome occurred in time for the 1989 season. Buy Blue
Jays Tickets Over the All-Star break of 2002 the Blue Jays were
looking at a record of 34-52. Needing to do something to get the
season on the right track manager Buck Martinez was replaced by
Carlos Tosca. The Blue Jays did turn the season around going 43-32
in the 2nd half of the season and winning 16 of their last 20
games and ending the season in 3rd place in the AL East. Rookie
of the Year Eric Hinske and Josh Phelps helped pull the Jays back
into the swing of things with Phelps batting in 58 RBIs in just
74 games after being brought up from the minors. Roy Halladay
also had a great season on the mound with 19 wins and 7 losses
as he represented the Jays in the All-Star Game. April 2003 proved
to be a struggle for the Jays as they post a 10-18 record. Fortunately
on May 1st Roy Halladay records his first win of the season sparking
the Blue Jays to win 21 of 29 games in May. That win was the 1st
of 15 straight for Halladay as he and the rest of the team were
on a roll. Carlos Delgado was on record setting pace for RBIs
at the All-Star Break with 97. The Jays finished the season strong
after a slight slump after the break. Halladay finished with a
22-7 record earning him a Cy Young. Meanwhile Delgado finishes
2nd in AL MVP voting behind Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers
as he records 42 homeruns and 145 RBIs. 2004 was a year of rebuilding
for the Blue Jays. The Jays struggled all season as injuries to
key players plagued the team. After getting swept in the first
series of the year things looked bleak from the eyes of Toronto
fans. Even in May after Frank Catalanotto’s six-hit night
the losses kept piling up. After Josh Phelps was traded mid season
many call-ups from the minors brought in some needed youth. In
a December off season move the Jays released Carlos Delgado and
signed Corey Koskie to a three-year deal. With large roster changes
put into action the Jays hope they can turn it around for 2005
and try to recreate their days in the early 90’s.
<p>It wasn't the big deal Blue Jays fans were expecting, but don't try selling that idea to general manager Alex Anthopoulos.</p>
<p>Though veteran players such as Jose Bautista and Scott Downs are still with the team, their first baseman of the future, Brett Wallace, has been shipped to Houston for center field prospect Anthony Gose.</p>
<p>Gose was part of Thursday's blockbuster deal involving Roy Oswalt. He moved from Philadelphia to Houston to Toronto.</p>
<p>In Gose, the Jays believe they've found their center fielder of the future. Given that he's 19 and playing at the Class A level, it could be another four or five years before he sees the bright lights of the Rogers Centre.</p>
<p>"It's very exciting to add him to the organization," Anthopoulos said.

Brad Mills knew he was only going to get one start before heading back to the minors. He made sure it was a good one. Mills, a rookie left-hander, pitched seven innings for his first major league win, Lyle Overbay hit a three-run homer and the Blue Jays wrapped up a three-game sweep by beating the Orioles 5-0 on Wednesday night, Toronto's 12th consecutive win over Baltimore.
Jose Bautista has come a long way from Opening Day leadoff man to a slugger with 30 home runs. Bautista hit two homers, giving him a major league-leading 30, Ricky Romero pitched 7 2-3 strong innings and Toronto beat Baltimore 8-2 on Tuesday night, the Blue Jays' 11th straight win over the Orioles.
On 80's Night in Toronto, the Blue Jays showed that some things never go out of style, such as victories over the Baltimore Orioles. Jose Bautista hit his major league-leading 28th home run, Aaron Hill and Adam Lind also connected and the Blue Jays beat Baltimore 9-5 on Monday night for their 10th straight win over the Orioles.

The Toronto Blue Jays got back to winning the way they usually do. Lyle Overbay hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, sending Toronto to a 5-3 victory over the injury-depleted Detroit Tigers on Sunday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Jim Leyland is only in favor of a trade-deadline deal for his Detroit Tigers if it makes the team significantly better. "For us to do something, give up a pretty good young player or players, it would have to be someone who we all felt would be a big difference maker," the manager said. Leyland said that player could be a hitter or pitcher.

The Toronto Blue Jays recalled infielder Mike McCoy from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers. McCoy is hitting .200 in 28 games with Toronto this year, and will provide insurance while Fred Lewis recovers from an ankle injury sustained Wednesday night. To make room for McCoy, the Blue Jays optioned pitcher Marc Rzepczynski to Las Vegas.
Zack Greinke said his command was a little off and he can do better. The Blue Jays were impressed nonetheless. Greinke won for the fifth time in six decisions and seldom-used catcher Brayan Pena had a career-high three hits to help the Kansas City Royals beat Toronto 5-2 on Wednesday. Jose Bautista has come a long way since 2004 when he played for four clubs, including the Kansas City Royals for 13 games, as a 23-year-old rookie. Bautista hit his major league-leading 26th home run and drove in five runs to back Jesse Litsch, who picked up his first victory since 2008, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Royals 13-1 on Tuesday night.
